Happy New Year to you all. Wishing you all a healthy and happy 2016. I haven't blogged for a while, I know, but a lot has been happening in our world - the latest being a new furry addition to the family in the form of Layla. She is a cross Cocker Spaniel (not sure what she's crossed with though!). As those of you with puppies will know they are very tiring and time consuming!!! Love her to bits and she is doing very well with house-training and obedience but had completely forgotten how much work puppies are and of course crafting has somewhat gone out of the window! However, I have had the first crafty afternoon of 2016 today and I used a Retrosketch to get the inspirational juices flowing.

Here is my take on the current project #196. I took a square Kraft card and matted some chocolate brown Co-ordinations card onto it. Then cut some gold Co-ordinations card and some white card which had been embossed with sunflowers. I put a cream/gold border down the middle of the two then popped an embellishment from Making Cards magazine onto 3d foam to give some depth. The sentiment is also mounted on 3d foam pads. I cut the horizontal card from gold and added some gold jewels into the left hand corners. Hope I have done it correctly but I will submit it and see what happens! It certainly kept me focussed after all the Christmas card making.

I will try and blog again in the next few days (puppy permitting!!)
Monday the tree surgeon came along and took down a huge Monteray Pine in the front garden which had become far too big for its proximity to the cottage and after the winter storms and some large branches being blown down we decided it was time for her to go!! Of course, large trees bring lots of branches and tons of wood so that has added to the workload somewhat this week! Here are a few photos of the action!
A happy Saturday to you all! Apologies for not posting for a while but since my hip op I have been busy exercising and trying to get my strength back. Its great to be pain free but I've learnt that you cannot be complacent when it comes to daily exercise as the muscles really need to be strengthened to support the new hip and do all the movements you haven't been able to do for a while! Anyway I have had more opportunities to make cards and also re-organise my crafty cottage. Thats a job in progress and thanks to Tiffany and Get Organised thescraprack.easystorecreator.com, I finally think that my space will be more user friendly and productive!! I haven't been able to run to a purchase of the Scraprack yet but there are lots of ways you can use her ideas before you take the plunge!

We went out with some other friends for a lovely chinese meal at lunchtime and celebrated with some yummy chinese goodies! Here are the flowers I made her:-

The lovely Claire of making-handmade-cards.com has added some tutorials to her website and they are really worth a peek! They are using her lovely printable cardmaking kits that you can buy from her website. I took them to the UK with me at the beginning of October and she loved them. I filled the box with some lovely little French chocs which she loved. I haven't had chance to post since then as I have been in hospital having a hip replacement operation which as you can imagine has put me out of action somewhat! Still I am starting to feel the crafting mojo returning and I am going to get my lovely hubbie to bring a table from my crafty cottage to the house and I am going to carry on with Christmas card making tomorrow. I am going to sit in the conservatory with the good light and will enjoy the change of scenery of the sofa of the last few days.
Hope you are enjoying the weekend and the sun is shining wherever you are! It is another nice warm sunny day in Brittany and I have managed to spend some time in the garden this morning. The chickens needed some help with the housework so they are all clean and debugged. The old girls haven't laid for a few weeks now so not sure whether they have retired themselves or whether they are just having a rest?!? There are a lot of feathers blowing in the wind around the run so am thinking they are just having a well-earned rest (but I need eggs for cake making!!!) Never mind, the bantums have been laying regularly so not a problem (just have to double up as they are only little ones!). Another job this morning has been clearing and preparing parts of the veg plot that have finished producing and sowing with green fertiliser. I have used Mustard this year and hoping it will improve the ground and surpress the weeds during the winter months.

The following is my "Furry Friends and embossing challenge" contribution. Have been busy for a week or so and just realised I didn't post my card but here it is anyway:-
Just thought I would share with you two photos of our cat, Elvis, who is such a character. His latest trick is to get inside a pillowcase and have a sleep!! He loves to get inside things and he has been very naughty of late and has discovered he can pull down the kick boards in my kitchen and then climb around underneath and behind all the cupboards. I've tried soaking him with water but he still comes back for more. I have therefore given him an old pillow and case for him to climb into, to try and distract him. It does work sometimes but he still goes back to the kitchen to dismantle it!!! Not wanting to permanently fix the kick boards in place but maybe I'll have to.

Well, I had better make a cuppa first and then head back out to the veg patch. More onions to pull out for drying (its fine and windy today) and sow a bit more Mustard to take its place.

I have a few birthdays to make cards for so card making later while watching the first of this season's Strictly Come Dancing - at last some decent Saturday night viewing!! Have a look in the Gallery for other cards I have made.

Have been back from our hols for a week or so and after a lot of frantic gardening to get everything back up to speed, I have finally found a few moments to post something.

Narbonne on the French Mediterranean coast was a lovely region - lovely countryside, plenty of vineyards and lots of fresh fish to eat!! It was however extremely hot and so we did a little visiting in the mornings and then a few hours swimming (and fishing) on the beach in the afternoon. We were there to catch up with my cousin and his wife so there was plenty of time to chat and exchange news as it was too hot to do much else!!

I did manage to make several decoupage embellishments to use on my cards whilst on the train journeys so I did get my crafty "fix" while away!

This week at the crafty cottage I set a challenge of "Red and Green" - could be Christmas but doesn't have to be! Below are the two cards I made - originally I was thinking it would be a good chance to make some more Christmas cards but then realised I had a couple of cards to send this week and ended up making them in red and green which was good fun. I am hoping to get pics of what the other ladies made and will post them later in the week.

I am planning to make the challenge a weekly thing to add a bit of inspiration and fun to the crafty cottage afternoons, but who knows, if others want to join in it could become global!!

Today has been busy getting things together ready for our departure on holiday. More washing (unfortunately that means more ironing later - don't you just hate it!), suitcases out ready for the packing to begin, pedicure and manicure ready for the beach, then have been out in the garden trimming one of our trees which has put on far too much growth for its own good!, then into the polytunnel and weeded, fed the tomatoes and melons and pinched out all the growing tips to ensure some good size fruit all round! Harvested today:- cornichons (gherkins), french beans, runner beans, peas, courgettes, chillis. Still no tomatoes yet but at last they are starting to colour up - hooray! We were getting concerned as they are so late in ripening this year and even though they are a good size and we have had some hot weather we haven't had one to eat yet! I read somewhere to pick a few green ones to allow the others to develop and to stop watering for a day or two. I did this and low and behold they have started to ripen. Could be coincidence of course but I'm just glad they are on their way to ripening now - can't beat a freshly picked tommie warm and straight from the polytunnel!!

Enough of my meanderings for today. Hope you are having a good day!
Sorry, just had to say it. Must be missing singing with the choir as we have broken up for the holidays now!

Just writing a line or two as we have been busy making jams and jellies this morning with the fruits we have harvested from the garden. Hubbie made some more blackcurrant jam as the last jar was eagerly finished off by our visitors last week and we only had strawberry jam left in the cupboard! I made some redcurrant jelly with the last of the currants - just a small jar as it is my first one and I am now debating with myself as to whether I need to waterbath it as the recipe suggests?!? If anyone knows please send me a comment. I have sterilised the jar in the usual way and it was hot when I put the jelly in the jar so not sure why I would want to waterbath it as well? Any helpful advice will be greatly appreciated.

I have had a card crafty week as there are a few birthdays coming up in the next few weeks so thought I would get them done as it involved five cards but between two households so have been thrifty and sent two packages with all the cards inside! We are also away for a few days next week so wanted to make sure they were done before I leave! Here they are:-

It has been a busy few weeks with visits from family and friends but very enjoyable as the sun shone all the time and the little ones had so much fun running around the garden and dipping in and out of the splash pool! The weather makes all the difference and we have been experiencing the best summer since we moved here! It started out poorly which didn't help growing my plants and veg but it is making up for it now - hoorah!

We went to Chateau Villandry in June which was fabulous and the gardens were just - wow!! We went with our good friends Bob and Pam and stopped overnight in Amboise which also was lovely. Had a little taste of some Saumur wine and a tour of the "caves" there which was fascinating. I have never seen so many bottles of wine in one place (not even at chez nous - hehe only joking!!)
The weather hasn't helped and so all the sowing of seeds and preparing the garden and potager ready for the growing season has all been delayed but now the weather has perked up a bit it has been "all systems go!" and trying very hard to catch up with everything.

Life has a funny way of throwing things at you and my other half has been in hospital recently and I am having continuing back problems so all in all the thing that we love the most has been tough these past few months but it has also been our saviour in keeping us going and giving us the exercise and pleasure to continue!

Anyway just wanted to share a couple of recent cards I have made. The first was a Star Wars themed card for my great nephew who just loves the films and all the toys and paraphanelia that goes with it. He turned 6 last weekend and I believe he enjoyed the card. The other card is including a bookmark which is my first attempt at Pergamano which I am quite pleased with as a first attempt and sufficiently so to send it as a birthday gift for my aunt who lives in Belgium and who turns 102 years old next week!
I heard last night that I have a new great niece!! Her name is Eva Louise and she weighed 7lbs 15.5oz. She is truly beautiful too. I have seen a photo already as she is home and my nephew sent us a piccie across the sea to us in sunny (today!!) Brittany. Can't wait to meet her in a few weeks time to have lots of cuddles.

Below is the card I have made for her using one of my favourite baby digi images from Mo's Digital Pencil which I coloured with Promarkers.
I managed to finish off the "coffee filter" flowers that I started last week which I am quite pleased with. I have left them drying in the cottage so will take a photo and post here in the next few days. Also made a few spiral flowers and punched ones from my scrappy paper stash so feeling happy I have some new embellies for my stash! One of the crafty ladies also brought along her newly acquired stash of parchment tools and materials today. We are all novices so it will be a learning curve but Steph has lots of books too so we are going to have some fun together learning the art of parchment work - is Pergamano the collective name for it? I don't know but maybe someone will tell me! I have already picked out a bookmark to be my first project. I am hoping it will be fairly simple for my first project but am looking forward to "playing" and learning with the crafty ladies over the next few weeks.

Its getting colder here and forecast to freeze some more. Still managed to rain on us again this morning but hopefully that will be the last for a few days at least!

Hope you are warm where you are! I'm off to put another log on the fire!

Thanks for stopping by.
It was good "chez nous" with lots of festive fun, friends, food and drink!! Now for the diet and getting back to reality!! Not going to diet as I don't really believe in the faddy ones but just healthy eating and everything in moderation! Hubby is feeling poorly at the moment as he has had toothache since New Years Day so not getting much sleep and a bit grumpy to boot!! Very unlike him, so he is currently catching up on some zzzzz's (and giving me an opportunity to blog a much belated post!)

Thought I would share with you some easy to make gifts I have given to some crafty girlfriends for New Year - some itsy bitsy 2013 calendars that are on cards so they can stand proudly either on the dresser, next to the computer or such. Really simple to put together and could be adapted to your own design using punched flowers perhaps from your scrap paper stash!! I got the calendar download "free" from here:- http://verymerryvintagestyle.blogspot.fr/2012/09/2013-mini-calendar-printable.html

I cut an A4 card blank in half lengthways to make two calendar cards and then decorated them accordingly. I used silicone glue to make the "binding" at the top of the calendar - just hoping this will work OK in practise!! I have written a New Year message inside the card but you could of course put anything you like or maybe use it for a January birthday card and gift in one!

It is turning a bit colder here today after all the rain of the past weeks and I am really hoping that it will continue to get colder and kill off all the nasty germs and viruses that are floating around us in these mild, damp conditions. We need the frost so everything dies back properly and we can make a clean start for the growing season ahead too. I am hoping so much that it will be a better summer this year.

Wishing you a peaceful and "crafty" New Year!! Til the next time ....... xx
It's been a while since I've blogged but it has been a strange year with lots of challenges in the garden, with family, the weather and some sad times but that perhaps is for another time, another blog.

Tonight, I picked up this JUGS Challenge and I immediately thought of Christmas (could be because I'm frantically making the last few of my personal cards!). I have made cards in the past but not managed to post them so this will be my first (all being well!!) Hope you like it! I used some pretty paper I had in my stash and added an embellishment and a french New Year sticker greeting (well I do live in France!)

I will be posting more of my Christmas cards in the gallery in the next few days. Happy crafting folks! I'm off to jar up this season's batch of mincemeat (must remember to add the obligatory glug of brandy!! Thanks for stopping by.
What a shame that the weather is so wet and windy on the main Jubilee weekend. I am sure it will all be lovely but I just feel for the people who are sat out waiting for it all to happen in the rain. Have to admit I would much rather watch it on TV and see everything at close range and not have to be stuck in traffic, and jostled by loads of people and (as it turns out) get soaking wet and cold to boot!!

Gardening has been the activity of necessity the last few days, as everything is in full growing mode (including the weeds) so there is no peace for the wicked! The strawberries are triumphant at the moment and it seems our hard work last autum/early spring has paid off and my objective to have plenty of them (2 kilos in 2 days!) to make batches of strawberry jam is coming to fruition (literally!)

Cardmaking has also had a turn during the week, as I had some time alone when my hubbie had a quick trip back to the UK, when I could just craft to my heart's content with no interruptions and until the early hours!

I had a wedding card to make for a friend's daughter. I used some Stardream coral pearl card from Joanna Sheen and embossed it with an embossing folder, punched the mirri paper with a Martha Stewart heart border, mounted some black and white images onto silver mirri card and used some rose covered velum from my stash for the inside. I made another wedding card and a birthday card which are for later in the year but won't publish them on here until after the event!

Well, had better sign off for now as have some serious jam making to do next!

Thanks for popping by!

I haven't posted for a few days as we have had our friends Stan & Kay come to stay with us. We have had a lovely week of chat and laughter, food and wine and lots of sunshine (except the weekend which we will try to forget - rained a lot Saturday and all day Sunday yuk!). Anyway we had some nice trips out to the coast, one of which was to Concarneau where I discovered a newly opened shop which sells airplants! I really love them as they are easy to keep and they remind me of my dear mum as she had one on her kitchen windowsill for many years which I bought her for Mother's day. I have also been hanging onto a round terranium/fish bowl (!) for many years and which has moved with us from Littleborough to Bexhill to France and which had been on borrowed time as my hubbie decided that as it hadnt even been looked at for years that it would have to go!! So I bought the airplants with this in mind and now it has a very good use and (if I say so myself) I think it makes a lovely home for the plants! Here it is ....

I have been gardening all day except for the airplant arrangement and may well go and mow another lawn next as it has cooled down a little. Then dinner outside in the evening sunshine methinks! Hoping the sunshine is here to stay a while.

Sunshine and Snakes

Well, it's been a busy few days. The weather has improved - still a bit showery but the gaps between the showers have got larger so I have been out in the garden catching up with planting and lots of weeding. Unfortunately wet and warm = weeds!!! so there is a lot to do! My tomato plants are nearly ready for planting so tomorrows job is turning over the soil in the polytunnel and setting up for planting. Runner beans are also coming on a treat so will plant them out too as Stuart has built the framework already.

We had some "fun" with the cats before the weekend. My hubbie heard some frantic rustling under the large christmas tree in the orchard only to find our two cats playing with a snake!! We managed to get Elvis away fairly easily (he was just looking on to what Ella was doing) but I had to use a broom to shoo Ella away from the snake and get them both indoors with doors and catflap shut! Not too keen having a snake in the grounds but we knew they were around but have never seen one before in all the 4 plus years we have lived here. We think the long grass in the orchard possibly attracted it, as it had got longer than usual with all the rain we have had and therefore less opportunity to cut it. Anyway, the snake must have bitten Ella as a small bump appeared on the top of her head so we started to worry. I phoned our vet and he said to keep an eye on her but not to worry too much unless it started to swell any more. Thankfully it didnt and after a few hours we let them go out again into the night for further hunting! The snake came off worse however as the next day we found it headless and severely sucked within an inch of its life!! I imagine Ella went back to get her revenge!!?

As to card making, I have made a card for my great nephew's fifth birthday. Using some decoupage and doublesided papers, together with some stamped pawprints, I really love this cheeky chappy! I hope my nephew will think the same.

Thanks for stopping by!KraftyKimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11375221746219236327noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6555125715869438435.post-67039421273934535392012-05-03T22:40:00.001+02:002012-05-03T22:40:09.248+02:00Well today has been lovely and warm and has allowed us to do a lot more work in the garden - hooray! Today I have potted on some cherry tomato plants and sowed some flower seeds - alium, nasturtiums, everlasting flowers and some french annuals which I forget the names of for now. I have also planted up another 4 flower troughs and an hanging basket for the garden. Stuart managed to mow the orchard which had got rather long and so was a bit hard going but is now done. However Stuart is wishing he had done it sooner (not possible because of the wet weather) as he investigated a commotion going on under our large christmas tree in the orchard only to find Elvis and Ella (our cats) playing with a snake!! Stu hates snakes with a vengeance so it was down to me to prise the cats away from their new found plaything and get them to safety. I believe it was an adder which I'm not shouting too loud about but it did manage to bite Ella. She had a lump on top of her head after about an hour of the fight which was a bit scary and so I phoned the vet and explained what had happened. He said it sounded like the bite was localised and told me to put some ice on it and keep an eye on her for a few hours. Thankfully it did not get any worse and she seems to be fine. A bit too much excitement for one afternoon me thinks!!

I have a few cards to post tomorrow from my craft afternoon yesterday so look out for them then.

That's all for today folks. Thanks for popping by.KraftyKimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11375221746219236327noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6555125715869438435.post-49555686761449641742012-05-01T15:36:00.001+02:002012-05-01T15:49:31.012+02:00

Hi folks! Hope your Tuesday is making you smile! The weather here has finally brightened up and allowed
us to work outside this morning - hooray! I hate it when I'm stuck indoors for too
long. It does give an opportunity for some craftyness though but my garden
also needs my attention and with all this rain everything is growing
fast (including the weeds!)

I made a card for a friend's 60th this weekend using some free papers from the Flowers Special edition of Making Cards magazine. I have pictured it below for you to see. I added a "60" peel off sticker after I took the photo in the top right hand corner of the main daisy picture. The papers in this magazine are lovely and I have made quite a few cards now using them. Most of the cards were commissioned special cards for friends and family which I love to make. Please take a look at my gallery to see some more cards I have made recently.

Well, that's all for the time being. I'm off to do a spot of planting in the polytunnel now as it has started to rain again! so the planned weeding will have to wait (what a shame!!!)

What a rainy day today! A typical April day and great for the garden but not the best for gardening. Everything is growing in my garden (including the weeds!) and needs attention but I have been working in the brighter intervals. We have managed to cut back the laurels and chip the big branches and now have used as a mulch around newly planted trees and other flower beds - anything to keep the weeds at bay!

The new hens, Daphne and Hilary are settling in well. Our remaining hen, Tallulah, was a bit bossy when they arrived on Saturday but every day she seems more accepting. So much so they have already started to lay eggs which is unexpected so early in their new home but it is looking good!

Hoping to do some stamping and colouring this evening but need to fetch my stamps from my crafty workshop - not possible at the moment as it is pouring down again. Hopefully I will have some images to share with you tomorrow. Happy days!

I love this time of year, planting and watching things grow. My lovely assistant (aka Stuart my hubbie) has been helping me clear and sort out the polytunnel ready for the growing season ahead! The day ended on a sad note however as our hen, Esmerelda, passed away. She has been poorly for a few days but we couldn't help her. So we will be off to market tomorrow to buy another two so that we are back up to full egg producing strength! They already have names - Hilary and Daphne! - don't ask me why those names as they are courtesy of my two lovely nieces! I will have to question them closer to find out where they came from (I suspect it could be something to do with Friday night wine drinking but I will tell more when I find out!) I didnt manage to fit in any cardmaking today but I am hoping to get more photos of my cards onto these pages but I hope you will bear with me as I am new to blogging and it is a bit of a learning curve! Any hints, tips and comments will be gratefully received.KraftyKimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11375221746219236327noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6555125715869438435.post-16804426464837445882012-04-16T23:16:00.001+02:002012-04-21T14:37:00.195+02:00Just Us Girls Challenge

This morning I read the Just Us Girls challenge, watched the video and really liked the sponged technique so when I realised I needed to make two birthday cards quickly to post to some fishing friends I thought I would try this new technique.
